About the Area

Nicoya Peninsula

Located on the Nicoya Peninsula, just along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica, is Mal Pais, Santa Teresa. Famed for its pristine beaches, consistent surf breaks, lush jungles and diversity of cultures, this once sleepy beach town has since become a top destination for travelers from all over the world.

Although technically there are two seasons, the “dry” season and “rainy” season, the temperatures in Santa Teresa rarely drop below 70 degrees and the oceans waters are always warm and inviting. Tourists visit the area for a variety of reasons.

Surrounded by a selection of the best surf breaks in Latin America, the Pura Vida vibe is taken to another level here. The surf culture has embedded itself over the last decade yielding hot bodies, bohemian afternoons, and late nights that play out like a fantasy for anyone drawn to the ocean or seaside. That super laidback vibe has the area quickly becoming a hotbed hideout for celebrities too.

Whether it is surf, nature hiking, fishing, snorkeling, yoga or simply enjoying the world’s biodiversity that it has to offer, Costa Rica is truly is a magical paradise.

Named “One of the most beautiful beaches in the world” by Forbes Magazine, amongst other publications, it is no surprise that Gisele Bundchen and Mel Gibson amongst other celebrities, entrepreneurs and foreigners are choosing to invest, develop and/or retire in Costa Rica.

Costa Rica has two international airports, the Juan Santamaria International Airport (SJO) located just outside of San Jose, Costa Rica and the Daniel Oduber International Airport (LIR), which is found in Liberia, Costa Rica.  From here you can fly into our local airport Tambor (TMU) that is conveniently located 30 minutes from the town.
